Luigi Bartolini (Cupramontana, February 8, 1892 - Rome, May 16, 1963)
Painter, engraver, writer and poet.
Along with Morandi and Viviani is considered among the greatest
twentieth Italian century engravers. Trained at the Academy of Rome,
his first etchings date from 1914, is inspired by the prints of
Rembrabdt, Goya, Signorini, Fattori and engravers of the eighteenth Italian
century. Participated, by invitation, as an engraver and as a
painter at the Venice Biennale from 1928 to 1962, receiving the award
for his recording in 1942. For the incision was awarded to Florence in
1932, Morandi and Boccioni (in memory). In 1935 He wins a prize at the
Quadrennial in Rome and in 1950 in Lugano.
Arrested for political reasons in 1933, after a month's
imprisonment was exiled first to Montefusco and then in Merano where he
stayed for five years. From 1949 to 1950, he realized, along with a
self-portrait, Harvesters for Verzocchi collection of Forlì, now in the
Pinacoteca Civica in the city.
Developed different ways of painting established by himself, "a
blonde", "black" and "linear", conducting a number of ways with these
etchings. Also worthy of his work as a writer, poet, art critic and
polemicist, with over 70 books published with major publishing houses
and his work as a journalist as a collaborator of the major Italian
magazines and newspapers: Corriere della Sera, the Borghese, etc.

Zavattini from which he drew inspiration for the screenplay of the
